Shankly Gates

Anfield's Shankly Gates will be placed into safe storage next week in order to allow progress to continue on the expansion of the stadium's Main Stand.

Erected in honour of the iconic Bill Shankly, the gates on Anfield Road were first unlocked by his wife, Nessie, on August 26, 1982 - 11 months after the Scot sadly passed away.

The temporary moving of the gates allows construction work, which began earlier this year and will add around 8,500 seats to the ground, to continue on the site.

The Shankly Gates will return to Anfield when construction work is complete. For more information on the redevelopment of the Main Stand, click here
